Comanche Peak
Join master adventurer, AJ, and geologist, Eddie Zuniga and hike the Thousand Steps beginning at Palisades Canyon. Approximately 4-miles, this is a difficult hike up to the ridge of the mountain. We are beginning at Palisades Canyon in order to learn more about the geology of Comanche Peak and the Crazy Cat landslide. Palisades Trail also cuts across dino aged sediments (and some marine fossils) and a few nice fault lines. In addition, you will learn more about the construction of the 1,000 Steps.
Please bring 2-4 liters of water and snacks. Wear sturdy hiking shoes/boots. Dress appropriately for the weather. Please bring a mask and social distance.
The hike begins at the Palisades Canyon access road. The trailhead is located on the northern end of Robinson Avenue, near the tip of Arroyo Park. A sign and vehicle gate mark the entry point. Vehicles should be parked along the shoulder on the southern end of Robinson. Please do not block the vehicle gate.
