Enter a mine and explore the history and geology of our region. Overall you will hike 1.5 miles with 300 yards in the mine itself. The exploration into the mine is fun and easy with one initial short belly crawl through the opening. Meet at the Tom Mays Unit of the Franklin Mountains State Park. Get directions to parking lot at the Ranger Station. Bring water, snacks, a flashlight or head lamp and sturdy hiking shoes/boots. You may also want to bring a hiking stick, camera and binoculars.
