Hike a mountain bike trail into Hitt Canyon. (Keep an eye out for mountain bikers.) This is another moderate 4-5 hour, 5-6 miles hike at the north end of the Franklin Mountains. Directions:  From I-10 West, take exit 162 (Anthony/Chaparral) NM 404. Drive east 4.2 miles. At the exact place where the passing lane ends, turn right onto a dirt road.  Go through a green gate.  Drive 2/10mile to a flat parking area on the left. There is a $2 FMSP fee or use your TX Parks Pass.  Bring 2-3 liters of water, snacks and sturdy hiking boots. This hike is dog friendly if your dog has been trained and socialized. Bring doggie bags and water.
