Hueco Tanks and the Butterfield Overland Trail!

The Overland Mail Company was formed in 1858 to transport mail from St. Louis, Missouri to San Francisco, California over the Butterfield Overland Trail. A stagecoach station was created along the route at Hueco Tanks. During this event, we will take a short hike to the station site and hear tales from the trail. Please bring water and wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. This event is limited to 25 people. No reservations are needed. Cost: $ 9 adult / $ 2 children includes park entrance fee.

Join Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site staff and enjoy one of the most rewarding views of El Paso and surrounding mountains. Tour is limited to 25 participants and reservations are required. Join us for a woman only hike at Hueco Tanks

Explore the site with a female ranger or volunteer and learn more about best hiking practices in the Chihuahuan Desert. This tour is open to women with all levels of experience and offers breathtaking views of El Paso and the surrounding mountains. Hike will be limited to 25 participants. Do you want to relieve stress? Join a Tai Chi instructor for a morning of exercise.

Tai Chi has been shown to also increase balance, flexibility and strength, perfect for those hikes on the mountain. This tour is limited to 15 participants and reservations are required. The cost is $9 per adult.

Join us for a tour of the night sky!

Join Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site staff a night of stargazing, stories, and planetary viewing.

Visitors are welcome to bring their own binoculars and telescopes, but it is not required. There will be no reservations for these events. Groups will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis and we will cap visitation at 100 people. Gates close promptly at 8:00p.m., no exceptions. Cost is $9 per adult ages 13 and over and $2 per child ages 5-12. Please make sure to bring weather-appropriate clothing, water, snacks, and blankets and chairs if so desired.

Hueco Tanks State Park & Historic Site is visited by over 200+ different species of birds throughout the year and this is your chance to see some of them! Whether you are a birder or just curious how to tell one bird from the other, this tour is for you.

 Tours leave from the Park’s Interpretive Center at 8 a.m. every third Saturday of the month. Things to bring: Water, binoculars, camera, bird guide / ID book, good hiking shoes, and enthusiasm! Tour is limited to 10 participants and reservations are required. The cost is $9 per adult 13 and above and $2 per child ages 5-12. To reserve a spot on the tour, please call (915) 857-1135 x 0.

Learn how Native Peoples used plants to survive in the Chihuahuan Desert

Join a Certified Master Herbalist and Master Gardener for a look at how Native Peoples utilized the plants of Hueco Tanks to make food, medicine, clothing, tools, weapons, and so much more. This tour is limited to 10 participants and reservations are required. The cost is $9 per adult 13 and above and $2 per child ages 5-12.

Spend the morning exploring the nooks and crannies of Hueco Tanks!

Join Hueco Tanks staff and volunteers to explore the caves, nooks, crannies, and crevices of our diverse site. There will be three guided tours, each moderately strenuous with some crawling and climbing involved. The minimum age requirement is 7 years old and reservations are needed. Each family can only reserve a maximum of four spots. Cost is $9 per adult 13 and above and $2 per child ages 7-12. Please bring water, sturdy shoes, a flashlight, and weather-appropriate clothing. Join a park ranger for story time.

You and your children are invited to join a park ranger for story time. We will read a nature-based story and follow it up with a short walk to learn more about Hueco Tanks. The cost is $9 per adult (13 and above) and $2 per child (ages 5-12). Make sure to bring weather appropriate clothing, water and snacks.
