2018 Franklin Mountain State Park Events

Friday the 19th Full Moon Hike – 7:00 pm

Another Global Astronomy Month event! We will hike the Upper Sunset trail, a 1.3 mile moderately difficult trail. I will need a sweep and someone to greet people at the gate. We will meet at the end loop in Tom Mays.


Saturday the 20th Women’s Hike – 8:00 am

We will meet at the W. Cottonwood Springs trail at 8:00 am and hike to the spring via agave loop. This is a moderately difficult trail of about 2 miles.


Friend’s Group Meeting – 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Here it is! If you are interested in helping out with the formation of the Franklin Mountains Friends Group, join us this evening to learn more about what that would mean. It will be held in the Memorial Park Branch Library meeting room.


Sunday the 28st Tin Mine Tour – 8:00 am

We will meet at Chuck Heinrich Park at 8:00 am. This is a 6 mile hike that is ranked at a moderate difficulty.



Saturday the 4th Peak Fitness Hike to Ron Coleman Strenuous Trail – 7:00 am

We will meet at Smuggler’s Pass parking lot off of Transmountain road at 7:00 am, then carpool over to the McKelligon Canyon trailhead. 3.8 miles of very strenuous trail.


Sunday the 5th Aztec Caves Hike – 8:00 am

We will meet at the Aztec Caves trailhead at 8:30 am. This hike is 1.2 miles round trip and is ranked as moderate in difficulty.


Wednesday the 8th Stroll in the Park – 9:00 am

This is a slow-paced, mid-week expedition. This week we will be enjoying the sights and sounds of the Lower Sunset Shortcut #1, a moderate trail of about 3 miles in the Tom Mays unit of Franklin Mountains State Park. We will meet at the end loop (near the scenic overlook) at 9:00 am.


Saturday the 18th Kids to Parks Day – 9:00 am 1:00

We will participate in the event hosted by El Paso Parks and Recreation by providing various guided hikes throughout the day including a women’s hike, short hikes along the dam, and moderate hikes to the maze trail. The event will be at Chuck Heinrich Park in the North East.


Sunday the 19th Prospect mine tours – 8:00 am, 10:00 am, and 1:00 pm

We will meet at the W. Cottonwood Springs trailhead. This is a short, easy hike.
