NO CARS ON SCENIC DRIVE??
Once again Celebration of Our Mountains will do “A Walk Through Time” a Scenic Sunday event on October 16 beginning at 7 a.m. on Scenic Drive. Experts in geology and history will give talks and be on hand to answer questions.
UTEP Geology Professor and founder of Celebration of Our Mountains, Phil Goodell, will be joined by filmmaker, Jackson Polk, and Dino Tracks own Eric Kappus and others as Celebration of Our Mountains presents: Scenic Sunday “Walk through Time”. See 500 million-year-old fossils, learn about the strata and other formations that make up our Franklin Mountains as well as learn more about the Sierra de Juarez, native plants and wildlife and El Paso history and legends. Visit informational booths. Take guided fossil hikes. Scenic Drive is closed to all motorized vehicles from 7 until Noon each Sunday morning throughout the year. Round trip is 4.1 miles from east to west or just 2 miles for the Walk through Time event if you enter the Drive on the west side. Talks will be at Scenic Point at the top of the Drive beginning at 8 a.m. Exhibit booths will be west of Scenic Point to Robinson Drive on the west side beginning at 7 a.m. (Scenic Drive Map)
Come learn about the Lost Padre Mine, or local Geology and the fossils of Scenic Drive! Learn from local experts and organizations such as the Texas Master Naturalists, UTEP Geology club, Future Educators of Math and Science, Franklin Mountains Wilderness Coalition, etc, and walk up a TRAFFIC FREE Scenic Drive.
